The project scope is to refurbish the existing Smokestacks at Orote Power Plant, located in Naval Base Guam. The work included detaching, repainting, cleaning exhaust silencers, and re-installation of existing smokestacks. All work was completed to provide longevity and sustainability for three (3) smokestacks at Building 307.
Smokestacks are crucial to a neighborhood’s well being; they keep out polluted smoke by releasing them at a higher altitude. Hence, proper maintenance of smokestacks is essential. Naval Base Guam’s Public Works Department (NBG PWD) ensures that this is part of their Major Maintenance Repair Program (MMRP) by refurbishing the smokestacks at NBG every five years. The refurbishment process ensures longevity and sustainability of Naval Base Guam’s emergency power supply.
Works included the detaching the smokestacks, sandblasting, repainting and re-installation of refurbished smokestacks. During the project some damages was identified in the base of smokestacks one, two and three. NBG PWD issued change orders and modifications to accommodate all additional work. All damages were repaired and Reliable Builders Inc. adhered to UFC 3-320-01A & AWS requirements and provided certified NDT (PT) and VT Inspections.
